INVITED SPEAKERS | 邀请报告

Prof. Simon Parkinson
University of Huddersfield, UK

Biosketch: Simon Parkinson a Professor of Cyber Security at the University of Huddersfield UK and an advisor to the UK Government’s Cyber Security Advisory Board. His research expertise spans Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence where he has led a variety of research and knowledge exchange projects exceeding the value of £1.5m, funded by the likes of the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), UK Research councils, and Innovate UK. Through his research, he and his collaborators have developed new ways to detect security weaknesses in access control systems, intrusions in enterprise IT systems, and unauthorised access through the use of behavioural biometrics such as key typing patterns and fitness devices.

Assoc. Prof. Yiyan Li
Fort Lewis College, USA

Biosketch: Dr. Yiyan Li attained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Bioelectronics (Biomedical Engineering) from Henan University of Science & Technology and Chongqing University, respectively. In 2016, he completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (with a minor in Computer Engineering) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, under the guidance of Dr. Jacob Baker. Following this, from 2016 to 2017, Dr. Li played a pivotal role in Dr. Weian Zhao's team at UC-Irvine, leading an NIH R01 project focused on detecting antibiotic resistance. This involved employing an electrical-optical detector in conjunction with ddPCR technology. In the fall of 2017, Dr. Li joined Fort Lewis College as a faculty member specializing in Computer Engineering.
Dr. Yiyan Li's professional journey includes serving as the director of the NSF REU site at FLC between 2019 and 2022, acting as the Principal Investigator for three EPA P3 programs from 2020 - 2025, and presently holding the position of Principal Investigator for the NSF STROBE FLC site since 2022. Concurrently, he serves as the Co-PI for the NSF PREM program and as the Research and Development Director for various industry projects at FLC.
The NSF REU site facilitates research opportunities for over 10 undergraduate students annually, both during the academic year and summer, working closely with the college's faculty. The EPA P3 grant supports three students each year to contribute to the development of a portable PCR device for field water monitoring studies, focusing on the machine and chemistry aspects. The combined NSF STROBE and PREM projects provide support for more than 20 undergraduates at FLC each year.
Dr. Li has also been involved in several industrial projects on behalf of FLC, including the development of embedded systems for Mission Sports Group LLC, Amberstone Biosciences, the Pagosa Springs Resort, and Sony Hayes Inc. In 2022, he collaborated with Sony Hayes Inc to design and patent an innovative single-emitter, single-board air purification system with polarity switching for future use in motor vehicles. In addition to his research, development, and supervisory roles as a dedicated scholar and educator, Dr. Li contributes to the field by serving on the editorial board of the journal of SLAS Technology and the review board of the journal of Micromachines. He also plays a crucial role in coordinating with college leadership for the ABET accreditation of the program.
